A cheap and easy solution for blocking daylight.

If you're a nightshifter and you need to black out a bedroom in the daytime, this is a cheap and easy solution. These DO block the light - only a sliver of it escapes from the sides (because have to be slightly less wide than the window if you ever plan to open them again), but this is easily solved by hanging a second shade OVER the casement if you don't have curtains.
They were far cheaper than blackout drapes and they look nice, too. And they're lightweight enough that you could take one along when you travel ... I wish I'd had these on hand in a whole lot of hotels with fancy but worthless drapes.
There were six in the package, which I mention because I asked Amazon's customer service how many were in the box and they had no idea.
These little shades are great

We love these shades. What an inexpensive solution to the problem of daylight leaking in around the drapes when you want to sleep in late. We have them installed in every window of our home, behind our plantation shutters. I also think they help keep the rooms a bit cooler in summertime, and oh, that lovely pitch black when you want to sleep in. Wonderful. They are super easy to put up. The sticky strip is very durable. Ours have been up in our home for 7 years and haven't fallen once. I have actually bought extras over the years, and packed them or shipped them ahead to my families homes when we visit. I put them up there so I can sleep in. (I am a light sleeper and wake up at first light streaming in.) My sister has left then up in her guest room for me, behind her miniblinds. When they are raised and clipped up, you cannot really notice them behind the miniblinds, so they aren't unattractive from outside or inside. Now granted, these are paper shades, with a very thin waxy laminate on the back to give them a little durability, and they are folded accordian like to raise or lower. They come with two plastic clips to hold them up when raised. My point being these aren't the height of elegance. I wouldn't have them up on a bare window permanently, as they aren't quite attractive enough for that in my opinion. But as an option behind existing blinds to block the light, or as a temporary fix for privacy and darkness til window coverings are permanently installed, these little guys are great.
Hints for installing. Cut them the exact width of the window opening so that they are a snug fit in the opening, not just the width of the glass, or the light will shine in on the sides. Also, buy the black color black-out shades. The white ones don't block out the light as well. These are nice and wide, but you can overlap them and maybe tape them together if you need them wider.
Great blackout shades

I bought these blackout shades to use in my 10 month old's bedroom. I used these blackout shades on the french door windows, as well as on her main exterior window. They work wonderfully! Her daytime naps are now more comfortable and relaxing in her bedroom. I also used them in our master bedroom on our exterior window and on our arched eyebrow picture window. We live in Alaska and with all our daylight during the summer, these affordable, temporary blackout shades are our answer to getting some sleep! They are easy to install and I even ordered the free book on decorative touches to add to the shades...something I didn't do, but would if I had the time.
Inexpensive and works perfectly!

I bought this product to improve my daughter's naps. Several reviews mentioned that this shade made it look like "midnight" in your room. I didn't expect it to be that great but it really is like midnight! My daughter has a large window in her room so two of these shades covered it perfectly and I can't believe how dark it is. Great product! Be aware, however, that this is pretty much pleated butcher paper. You're not paying for high quality.
Completely Satisfied

The Black-Out Redi Shades worked perfectly for our lower level family room. We needed something quick while we worked on our long term plans for that room...these were a great "temporary" solution. Easy to put up and change if necessary. A must-have if you have guests with small children!
